| Editorial Reviews:
Product Description Elizabeth Gilbert is in her thirties, she has a husband, a house, and they're trying for a baby - she doesn't want any of it. A bitter divorce and a turbulent love affair later, she emerges battered and bewildered and realises it is time to pursue her own journey in search of three things she has been missing: pleasure, devotion and balance.

Waste Of Time September 8, 2010 May Witch (Swindon, UK) I bought this book after reading so many rave reviews but I should have guessed that it was all hype. I hated this book, it was boring, self-indulgent nonsense. I could not relate to the author at all and was not at all sympathetic with her. She ended up just annoying me with all her reflections and little supposedly witty asides. Avoid!
Dull, Boring, Self-Indulgent September 7, 2010 E. Taylor (Australia) I wish zero stars was an option... This book is so self-obsessed I couldn't actually finish it. Instead I threw it in the bin to prevent at least one other person having to endure the drivel which is this book. It is so awful words have actually failed me. Please, please do not read this book! I have read the 5 star reviews and tried to see how this book could possibly rate higher than a punch in the face, but I can't.
What a Hype September 6, 2010 RetroKid 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
What a Hype, what a boring book. I am a book lover and i can read three books a week easily, but god this was like trawling through sludge. I wish Liz Gilbert all the best, but honestly i did find this disapointing, might make a good door stop.
Eh? September 6, 2010 Metropolly 1 out of 1 found this review helpful
There are clearly a lot of women who think of themselves as 'a spiritual person' who will like this kind of thing. I want to like it, especially as Elizabeth Gilbert is witty and not entirely un-self aware. But there's the nagging feeling that she uses her writing to establish and maintain the chicklit theme: Why I Am So Special And Everything Must Go My Way And Everyone Should Love Me The Most.
Then, there it is - proof! She writes a letter to God, asking for her divorce to come through. Instead of just asking for it, she justifies it by telling the Omniscient One that it's not just for her sake, but it's for the greater good of mankind and a vital step towards world peace. She implies that her prayer was immediately answered (though I'd like to think God was actually answering her husband's simultaneous prayer of 'Dear Lord, please get this harpie OFF MY BACK!') Even when she's writing to God she feels the need for self-justification, and tries to get one over on Him. So how are we, her mere mortal readers, to trust anything she writes for our benefit?

Deep Thinking but a Little Self Absorbed September 6, 2010 Copingsaw 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
This book examines the journey of a divorcee through the 12 months after her divorce and 3 countries. There are some deep and philosophical arguements made throughout the book which are great to get you thinking a little more about your own beliefs and culture. At the same time it is largely very entertaining and is really pretty funny.
There are points where the book wanders from the path to wallow in self pity, especially in the Ashram section, but otherwise a meaningful and entertaining read.
