C J Sansom, dissolution August 30, 2010 Mrs. E. Harris Another great read by C J Sansom. As usual he evokes the sounds and smells of medieval England, and the use of everyday language in a Tudor setting is delightful ,Jack Barak, with his fruity turn of phrase is a joy to read and the plot is another page turner.I defy anyone to guess whodunnit until the end .
A good read August 23, 2010 S. A. Holton (Windsor UK) I'd not read any C J Sansom before, and really enjoyed this, he creates a believable world, and has the right mix of detail and pace, so I read it pretty fast. The plot is interesting enough without being too obtuse, and there are some nice suprises. I will look to read the others in the series now.

If you've not read a Shardlake before, I really quite envy you.
For you'll have them all ahead of you to devour. DO NOT, repeat, DO NOT... read them out of their written order. I'm not being biased - it really will ruin the flow of the series if you read them in a hodge podge way.
Shardlake die-hards (just me and.. oh, a gazillion others) sigh with disappointment at the news that Kenneth Branagh has been cast as Shardlake in a forthcoming production. (KB isn't Shardlake - Shardlake is 'ours', after all).
Heartstone (due out Sept 2/3 2010) is the ONLY book, with an impending release,
that I've ever been so excited about that I'm prepared to buy the hard copy as soon as it's available. I don't often gush .. but Sansom/Shardlake is a one-off gush-exception zone.
I can't wait to see him again.

A great introduction to our hero! Any one wishing to find another author along the same lines as Ken Follett (Pillars of the Earth), C J Sansom certainly is a good follow-on. A very entertaining read.
Good reads! August 12, 2010 Norma Edge (Cheshire) 0 out of 1 found this review helpful
I picked up the fourth book 'Revelation' first of all, by mistake, then discovered that there were 3 before it. Having decided that Barak is the bees' knees (don't you wish you could call everyone an 'arsehole'??!!) I was disappointed to find that he doesn't feature until 'Dark Fire'. I didn't like Mark Poer, couldn't be trusted!
I love Shardlake though, he is wonderful if a little naive in his dealings with women. Must be the sheltered life of the lawyer that's had that effect on him! I really took a dislike to Henry VIII in 'Sovereign' for being horrid to my Matthew (sorry I do tend to get over - involved!) and I can't imagine that I'm the only one who would gladly give Bealknap a sly (or even a not so sly) kick.
These are good escapist books, not for the faint hearted as some descriptions can be a bit gory but that was life (or more correctly, death) then.
Read and enjoy!
